Getting started

Account, sign-in, and your first course.

Create an account and sign in

Use your email to register, then sign in on the web or extension.

Open Create account on the homepage or go to /register. You need a working email address and a password.

After registration, sign in at /login. If you forget your password, use Forgot password on that page to receive a reset link.

Recallory is a web app. You can install it from Settings when your browser offers Add to Home Screen or Install app.

Verify your email

Some features stay locked until your email is verified.

If the first message did not arrive, use Resend verification email on the reminder banner. The message comes from recallory.app. Check spam, then return to Recallory so the app can pick up the confirmed address.

  • You can review flashcards you already have without verification.
  • Generating study sets, drafts, and tutor replies requires a verified email and an active Recallory Plus subscription.

Add your first course

Courses keep each class separate. Units organize the weeks or modules inside a course.

Go to Courses in the sidebar (or the More menu on your phone). Create a course, then add units. You can seed units from a template or add them one at a time.

Use the course and unit selectors at the top of the sidebar to choose what you are working on. Flashcards, library notes, Write, and Tutor all follow that selection.

If you have no courses yet, Today and Review will prompt you to add one before study can start.

What Today shows

Today is the home screen for signed-in study.

Today lists how many reviews are due, how many new cards you can still introduce today, and recent activity for the selected course.

Start review opens the study session. If only new cards remain and reviews are clear, the link may include new cards automatically.

Courses & library

Structure, readings, notes, and sources.

Programs, courses, units, and topics

Optional programs group courses. Topics can sit on a unit or on the whole course.

Most students only need courses and units. Programs are optional containers if you want several related courses together.

Topics are labels you can attach to units or leave as course-wide themes. Tags on a topic are comma-separated in Courses.

Archiving removes something from active lists without deleting your account. Use archive when a term ends and you want a cleaner Courses page.

Add readings and sources

Save PDFs, links, and text so citations stay tied to real material.

On a unit, add sources from Library or while building flashcards. Public links and uploaded files are stored with the course so drafts can cite them.

Recallory fetches readable text from public pages when it can. If a site blocks access, paste the important excerpts into a note instead.

Library notes and sources

Library is the full list of notes and sources for your account, filtered by course when one is selected.

Open Library from the sidebar. You can create notes, edit them, and archive material you no longer need.

Notes often hold unit instructions or pasted readings. Sources are separate records with URLs or files.

Today & review

Due cards, ratings, and study settings.

Run a review session

Review opens from Today or the Review item in the bottom bar on mobile.

Open Review (/study). You see one card at a time. Reveal the answer, then rate how well you remembered it.

Card types include basic recall, fill-in (cloze), compare, apply, and explain. The label on the card tells you which type you are on.

When the queue is empty, you return to Today. You can start again later when more cards become due.

Again, Hard, Good, and Easy

Ratings schedule the next review using FSRS, a spaced-repetition model.

Again means you missed it; that card returns soon. Hard, Good, and Easy schedule longer intervals based on how confident you were.

Preview text under the buttons shows roughly when the card will come back. These times are estimates for your study plan, not grades from your school.

  • Desired retention in Settings changes how aggressively cards are spaced.
  • Daily new card limit caps how many brand-new cards enter review per day.
  • Review goal is a personal target for how many reviews you want to finish in a day.

Review while offline

Ratings can queue locally and sync when you are back online.

If a rating cannot reach the server, Recallory saves it locally and retries. You may see a short notice that reviews were saved offline.

Stay signed in and reopen the app when you have connectivity so pending ratings can upload.

Flashcards, write & tutor

Cards, drafts, and grounded questions.

Create flashcards manually

You can add cards without using AI.

Open Flashcards, choose the course and unit, and add cards directly. Manual cards work on the free plan.

Edit or archive cards from the same page when you need to fix wording or retire a unit.

Generate a study set

Study sets draft cards from unit notes and saved sources.

On Flashcards, generate a study set from the material on the selected unit. This uses your saved notes and sources, not the open web.

Study set generation requires Recallory Plus, a verified email, and counts against your hourly and daily limits. See Pricing or Settings for current caps.

Read generated cards before you rely on them for an exam. Edit anything that misstates your readings.

Write discussions and papers

Drafts start from unit readings and cite sources when the text uses them.

Open Write, pick the assignment type, and work from the sources on the unit. Outside research is for when your instructions ask for it.

Draft generation requires Plus and a verified email. You remain responsible for submitting work your school accepts.

Use the tutor

Ask questions about notes and sources on the selected unit.

Tutor answers from the library you saved for that unit. Switch course or unit in the sidebar if answers sound like the wrong class.

Tutor messages require Plus and count toward tutor limits in Settings.

Extension & inbox

Browser capture and filing highlights.

Connect the Chrome extension

Pair the extension without giving it your password.

  1. In Settings, choose Download extension and unzip the file. Keep the folder as it is.
  2. In Chrome, open chrome://extensions and turn on Developer mode.
  3. Choose Load unpacked and select the unzipped folder.
  4. Open the Recallory side panel and choose Connect Recallory.
  5. Sign in on the web if prompted, then approve the connection. Captures can then go to your inbox.

Settings lists connected browsers. Disconnect one immediately if you no longer use that device.

Inbox and filing captures

Selected text lands in Inbox until you attach it to a course.

Use the extension to save a quote from a page. Open Inbox to review captures, then file them onto the right course or discard them.

Extension capture requires Plus and counts toward capture limits.

Recallory Plus

Plans, limits, and billing in Settings.

Free plan vs Recallory Plus

Library and review are free; AI features need Plus.

The free plan includes courses, units, notes, sources, manual flashcards, FSRS review, export, and account deletion.

Recallory Plus is $7.99 per month and unlocks study sets, drafts, tutor, and extension capture, each with clear hourly and daily limits.

Public pricing details live on the Pricing page; live usage meters appear in Settings after you sign in.

Subscribe or manage billing

Checkout and invoices run through Stripe inside Settings.

  1. Sign in and open Settings.
  2. In the Billing section, choose Subscribe to open Stripe Checkout.
  3. After payment, return to Settings. Status may take a minute to update.
  4. Use Manage billing to change payment method, view invoices, or cancel.

If checkout was canceled, you can try again anytime. Your library remains on the free plan until Plus is active.

AI limits and usage

Limits keep usage predictable and are shown in Settings.

Each Plus feature has per-hour and per-day caps (study sets, drafts, tutor, captures). Settings shows how much you have used in the current window.

When a limit is reached, wait for the window to reset or try again later the same day if the daily cap allows.

Account & data

Profile, export, deletion, and privacy.

Profile and study preferences

Name, timezone, theme, and FSRS preferences live in Settings.

Update your name, timezone, and light or dark theme in Settings. Study preferences include desired retention, daily new card limit, and review goal.

Changes save to your account and apply the next time you open Today or Review.

Export or delete your library

You can download a JSON export or permanently delete the account.

In Settings, Export downloads courses, notes, cards, reviews, and related records as JSON.

Delete account removes your Firebase sign-in and library data after you confirm. This cannot be undone.

Privacy and Terms on the footer explain retention and acceptable use in more detail.

Troubleshooting

Common errors and where to get help.

“Subscription required” or billing errors

Usually means Plus is not active or Checkout did not finish.

  • Confirm you are signed in with the account that subscribed.
  • Open Settings and check Billing status.
  • Complete email verification if AI features are still blocked.
  • If you just paid, wait a minute and refresh Settings.

Extension will not connect or capture

Reconnect from the extension and check Plus status.

  • Start Connect Recallory from the extension again instead of bookmarking an old connect URL.
  • Disconnect the browser in Settings, then pair fresh.
  • Confirm Plus is active and capture limits are not exhausted.
  • Make sure you are signed into the same email in the browser and on the web.

Quick answers

Do I need Recallory Plus to review flashcards?

No. Courses, manual cards, and FSRS review work on the free plan. Plus is for study sets, drafts, tutor, and extension capture.

Why do I need to verify my email?

Verified email is required before AI features run. You can still review cards you already have while verification is pending. If the message is missing, resend it from the reminder banner.

How do I connect the Chrome extension?

Download the extension from Settings, unzip it, and load that folder from chrome://extensions with Developer mode on. Then choose Connect Recallory in the side panel and approve the connection.

Where do I change billing or cancel?

Open Settings, use Subscribe or Manage billing in the Billing section, and complete changes in Stripe.

Can I export my data?

Yes. Settings includes Export, which downloads your library as JSON. You can delete the account from the same area.
